Takulandilani! A warm welcomed by our guide and immediately transfer to Ng’ona Lodge where you will spend two nights. Ng’ona Lodge is 70km from the Chileka International Airport, overlooks the mighty Shire River and is situated just outside the Majete Game Reserve. The Lodge is an oasis in African bush and offers accommodation of high standard and a camp site with braai facilities. Majete Game Reserve is nestled in the south-western part of Malawi. It is a unique conservation and tourist destination for all visitors. While visiting Majete chances are you will see Africa’s Big Five: Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Black Rhino and Lion. Other wildlife in the park include giraffe, zebra and many more.
Today you will be transferred to Thyolo district the home of tea estates and ever-green all year round. You shall spend the next 2 nights at Huntingdon House, an originally family home that now exudes a colonial charm and a unique character that cannot be recreated. It forms the heart of Satemwa Tea Estate. The beauty about this place lies in its tea plantation surroundings. Feel free to tour more as the place is very irresistibly friendly to walking. Tea tasting makes the place famous too!
You shall have an early breakfast on this day and later cycle for 48km to Mulanje Mountain where after an early lunch you shall go on to begin hiking the Mulanje Mountain. The mountain boasts as Malawi’s highest pick at 3,000m above sea level and locally known as the “island in the sky”. The hike is at a slow pace spiced with taking pictures of waterfalls and rock pools along the way. Our trusted guides will take you to any angle of the mountain at your comfortable pace but with their advice and are always willing to go an extra mile.
Upon arrival at the foot of Mulanje Mountain you will be transferred to Liwonde National Park, stopping at African Heritage in Zomba for a refreshment. The 580sq km park is perhaps the most popular of all of Malawi’s game parks, with its beautiful riverine setting and teeming wildlife offering thrilling safaris. Large number of elephants, countless hippos and crocodiles are among other wildlife at the park. Non-stop birding and a visit for a wonderful cultural experience to just one village outside the Park are extra activities you can enjoy. Mvuu Camp is located in the heart of the park and offers excellent option for guests who want to enjoy the ultimate bush experience in a comfortable and relaxed setting.
This morning after breakfast will set for Cape Maclear where upon arrival you can kayak out or transfer by boat to the Island of Domwe. Lake Malawi National Park is the world’s First Fresh Water National Park and a World Heritage Site found at Cape Maclear at the south end of Lake Malawi. There is a veritable aquarium of tropical fish in crystal clear waters providing a colorful kaleidoscopic display.
Domwe Island offers both a unique combination of island and African bush environment. It is the largest island on Lake Malawi. The Domwe Island Adventure Camp is run on self-catered basis with guests making use of the kitchen facilities. Kayaking and observing nature through the challenging trails are popular activities besides SCUBA diving, hence making it on our wish list for active guests. Accommodation consists of three fully-furnished safari tents and two tent sites, complemented by a dining area with a bar and a water sport gazebo.
Nothing sweet lasts forever! Today you will be ending your tour with a transfer to the commercial city of Malawi where you will be able to rest, pack and buy souvenirs or gifts for your friends and family. On this day you spend a night at Leslie Lodge.
